Hair Loss in Women

Women lose hair differently. The plan should be different too.

Men recede; women thin. Female pattern hair loss usually widens the part and thins the crown while the front hairline holds, and traction, hormones and illness each leave their own pattern. Our doctors diagnose the cause first, then design a plan around your part, your hairline and the length you want to keep.

A widening part

Female pattern hair loss usually thins the top and the part line while the front hairline holds. Grafts placed along the part add the density that stops scalp from showing through.

Thinning temples and hairline

Tight braids, extensions and ponytails pull on the same follicles for years (traction alopecia), and some hairlines simply sit high or move back. Both are restored with a hairline designed around your face.

After pregnancy, menopause or illness

Shedding from hormonal shifts or illness often settles on its own. Where density never returns, transplanted hair fills it permanently. Your doctor confirms the shedding has stabilized before recommending a procedure.

Keep your length

Women rarely want a shaved head. No-Shave FUE™ leaves every hair its length, and when a strip (Linear FUT) is the better choice, the donor line sits hidden under your hair.

Some hair loss is treated with medication rather than a procedure. Active shedding, scarring alopecias and autoimmune hair loss need a diagnosis before any transplant, so every consultation starts with a scalp exam and a straight answer.

FAQs

Answers before you book

Can women get a hair transplant?

Yes. Women with female pattern hair loss, traction alopecia, a high or receded hairline, or thinning after an operation or injury are often excellent candidates. The consultation confirms the cause first, because some kinds of hair loss are better treated medically.

Do I have to shave my head?

No. With No-Shave FUE™ nothing is shaved, and you leave with the same length you arrived with. When a Linear FUT strip is the better choice for your case, the donor area sits under your hair.

FUE or FUT: which is right for women?

It depends on your donor density, hair length and goals. Long hair can hide a linear donor line, so FUT remains a good option for some women, while No-Shave FUE™ is the choice when nothing can show. Your doctor recommends one after the scalp exam.

How many grafts do women usually need?+

Most of the women on this page had 1,800 to 2,600 grafts, placed in a single day. Your exact count comes from the consultation, where your doctor measures the area and your donor supply.

Will it look natural?+

Transplanted hair is your own hair, placed one follicle at a time along a hairline designed for your face and the direction your hair grows. It grows, washes, colors and styles like the rest of your hair.

When will I see results?+

New growth starts around month three or four, fills in through months eight to twelve, and keeps maturing to 18 months. The results on this page were photographed at 9 to 23 months.

Is it permanent?+

Yes. Donor hair from the back and sides is resistant to the hormones that drive pattern thinning and keeps that resistance where it is placed. Every procedure is Guaranteed to Grow for Life™.

What about minoxidil, PRP or supplements?+

They can help you keep the hair you have and are sometimes paired with a transplant, but they do not rebuild a hairline or add density where follicles are gone. Non-surgical options are part of every consultation.

Does insurance cover it?+

Hair restoration is considered cosmetic, so insurance does not typically cover it. Financing is available through Cherry and CareCredit, and consultations are always free.
